The automotive industry has come to rely on dry ice blasting in numerous applications throughout the manufacturing process:
- engine blocks;
- pistons
- coils;
- other engine components
Remanufacturers of automobile engines have found significant cost-savings and warranty-related advantages in using dry ice blasting rather than steel shot or other abrasive media.
When using steel shot, for instance, if even one piece of shot is left behind and gets into the bearings, a warranty-return (and the accompanying loss of goodwill) often results. Dry ice disappears on contact with the targeted surface, thus eliminating any such entrapment issues. If effectively removes both viscous and baked-on residues including oil, dirt, and grease from engine blocks, coils, pistons and other engine components.
